It is a common fact that Hungarian soil does not contain enough zinc. Corn - one of our plough-land cultivations - is especially sensitive to it. Lack of zinc can draw back the development of the plant already in early stages (reduced growth, shortened merithals). On the older leaves of the corn chlorotic stripes may occur. Development and binding of flower may be problematic, too few and malformed grains may grow on the corncob.
Lack of zinc can be treated at early stage of the appearance of symptoms, but from practical point of view prevention based on soil examinations has greater significance. Zinc has a vital role not only in enzyme metastasis and hormone synthesis but in nitrogen metastasis as well, so usefulness of nitrogen fertilizers can be increased with placing zinc out
